Congratulations to our client Native Son on their successful Native Son Awards sponsored by Cadillac. The annual event celebrated excellence in the Black Gay/Queer community and highlighted men who are leaders in politics, entertainment, business, arts and culture, and sports, but who have often lived in the shadows, unseen, and unsung.
The event was held virtually and acknowledged the tremendous advancements the Black community has witnessed in light of 2020’s racial justice movement. It was hosted by the organization’s founder Emil Wilbekin and honorees of the event included:
Actor Billy Porter
Broadway legend André De Shields
Civil rights leader Rashad Robinson
Director Lee Daniels
Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful
The evening's presenters included notable Black women leaders including:
Supermodel Naomi Campbell
Author and trans advocate Janet Mock
Co-founder of Black Lives Matter Alicia Garza
“Thank you for inviting me into this community. I’m proud to be a Black man. I’m proud to be a queer man.” – Honoree André De Shields
The event drew an audience of nearly 1,000 viewers on YouTube and Facebook. During the event the organization launched their major donor program, the James Baldwin Society, in anticipation of their fifth anniversary. Membership in the James Baldwin Society begins at $125/month and helps sustain the organization’s growing outreach, education, and programming efforts.
